Clerk’s report AGM May 6th 2009
The South Newton website now has a section for advertising businesses and would welcome new advertisers.
The Parish Clerk hopes to have a waster removal option for those who cannot get to the city skip but with the installation of the Unitary Authority many of the previous facilities have changed and there is currently no immediate information regarding availability.
The clerk is pursuing this.
There have been two new bus stops installed close to Glenside Manor Nursing Home to improve safety for bus users at that end of the Village. The hedge bus stops are still in situ but considered hazardously close to the road with little space for waiting so the parishioners are encouraged to use the more recently installed ones.
Bus No 2 now has access to St Andrew’s road twice weekly
The Telephone kiosk which was originally planned to be removed by BT has been repaired once to full working order but has now had the glass damaged once again.
Repairs are taking much longer and it is not known how long this may take or what usage this kiosk actually has.
There is ongoing hedge cutting and drainage clearance throughout the village, perhaps not always at the times when things are growing but with reasonable regularity.
If anyone has serious issues for clearance please contact the clerk.
The bench in the village has been repaired.
With the change in the Unitary Authority there is still confusion as to who represents the relevant departments: The Parish is still pursuing:
1. the possibility of installing extended double yellow lines in St Andrews road.
2. renewal of several signposts around the village
3. previously applied for traffic calming measures – ie. Pelican crossing at Stoford.
Charitable donations for the year will be to paid to the Parish Magazine, the Church, the Village Hall, Good Companions and Wilton Centre for the Aged.
End of year financial balance of the Parish Council all accounts = £ 8951.45 credit
The Parish Precept remains at £4620.--
