AGM 9 May 07 - Clerk's Report
South Newton Parish Council
Clerk’s report AGM May 9th 2007
Newly elected parish councillors: There has been one newly elected Parish Councillor – Mr James Green from Mount Pleasant, Stoford who was unanimously voted onto council on November 1st 2006.
The Parish now has a Parish Steward – Mr Andy Roper who is responsible for much of the work that the lengthsmen would previously have covered such as clearing gullies, help to clear boundaries etc: Any further clearance of the A36 and drains should still be referred to Interoute.
The South Newton website has been very successful and is always looking for new items of local interest to post.
At the last AGM Tim Wilton requested a review of the water supply to the allotments. This was taken up with the Estate Management. The outcome was that although in conjunction with future building developments the Estate might consider the installation of a water tap on the allotments, the running and administrative cost of maintenance and water usage would have to be evenly distributed as a variable rate and billed annually to all allotment tenants whether they used the water or not. This situation may be reviewed in the instance of any future building works and any facility would only be implemented with full consent and contracted agreement of all allotment tenants.
The waste compactor vehicle will be booked for two Saturdays in the coming year.
It will first appear on Saturday May 19th and will again be booked for a Saturday in November. The Parish still receives a council grant towards the cost of this facility.
Road improvement shave now commenced through the village with a pelican crossing near Glenside Manor as well as in the centre of the village. The speed camera has been moved marginally to accommodate this and speed restrictions are now being installed at the Stoford end of the village.
New Neighbourhood Watch signs have been erected on both sides of the village.
Charitable donations for the year will be to paid to the Parish Magazine, the Church, the Village Hall, Good Companions and Wilton Centre for the Aged.
The Vale View road rubbish bins are generally cleared and the black bags replaced on a voluntary basis by Cllr Henstridge or Cllr Blake as well as the repair and replacement of the football nets on the play area.
End of year financial balance of the Parish Council all accounts = £9534.32 credit
