Game Summary - 30 Mar 08

SOUTH NEWTON AND WISHFORD FC 7 - 2 DURRINGTON DYNAMOS

We had our 15th and final league match at home against Durrington on Sunday.

 

This was a team we had previously beaten 2-0 away and 3-1 at home in the league so we looking for a good performance which would finish off a great season.

 

From the kick off we put them under pressure and after about 1 min we broke through their defence but were unable to score. We then had our second chance at scoring but failed to find the back of the net after some great team build up play.

 

As the half went on we got much stronger but were still finding it hard to break down their defence.

Durrington then had their first attack of the game which we cleared the ball easily and with some great passing the ball fell to centre forward Gregory Moss who played it to the feet of Scott Blake who shot just wide.

We kept dominating the half but never managed to make all the pressure count and 10 minutes before half time Durrington broke through our defence and slotted the ball home to make it 1-0 to them.

This then woke us up and a great run down the wing by Aiden Compton who crossed to Greg Moss who met it on the volley and it hit the back of the net to make it 1-1.

We still carried on dominating and a loose ball was played through to Greg Moss who out muscled the defender and slotted it past the keeper to make it 2-1 to us at half time.

 

We came out after the interval with great determination as the lads knew with a little more pressure they would get all three points from the game and win by a greater margin.

It was straight after the kick off the Aiden Compton ran through the Durrington defence and laid the ball off to Gregory Moss just on the edge of the penalty area who turned the defender and passed the ball back to Aiden who coolly slotted home to make it 3-1.

From their kick off we regained possession quickly and after some great team passing between Scott Blake and Greg Moss who laid the ball off to Aiden Compton whose shot just missed the far post and went out for a goal kick.

As the game went on we were gaining more and more possession, Aiden Compton then picked the ball up from outside the penalty area and was fouled just outside the box, he picked himself up and shot at goal finding the back of the net with a superb free kick to make it 4-1.

 

From then on it was all South Newton as the Durrington heads dropped, Aiden crossed the ball into the penalty area and the ball hit the defender on the head and the ball found the back of the net to make it 5-1.

From the kick off Greg Moss won the ball back passed to Kieran Hargreaves who then passed to Scott Blake who's fierce shot hit the back of the net to make it 6-1 to us.

We then fell to a consolation goal as the Durrington forward never gave up on chasing the ball and a scuffed shot wrong footed the keeper and made it 6-2.

With one final assault on the Durrington goal Aiden Compton was played through on goal by Scott Blake and he rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home to cap a great game off with a hat trick and make it a 7-2 win for us.

Kieran Hargreaves, David Cooper, Inigo Hawkings and Lewis Sansford had the job of playing in defence and defensive midfield today and between them did a fantastic job of stopping most of the attacks. Also goal keeper Luke Emm had a great game keeping out the Durrington shots and marshalling the defence. We would also like to mention the efforts throughout the season of Cody Biddle who through illness came for the team photos but could not take part in the match today.

This now means we have won the league with 36 points from 11 wins 3 draws and 1 loss.

 

Man of the match this week was Scott Blake who had an excellent game in midfield scoring a goal and some great strong midfield play which certainly helped us to dominate the game. Well, done Scott from the team, supporters and management.

We would also like to point out how well the whole team played today and throughout the season, they were under allot of pressure to win the last game to cap off a great season and they did it in the way they had been practising and that was as a team. Well, done.

 

The awards night for all trophies has yet to be decided so when a date has been finalised we will post it here.

 

Our next training session date will be posted here when we will be getting ready for the 6 a side tournaments throughout the summer.

 

We will be kicking off the 08/09 season in September where we will be in the under ten league. We will be requiring a couple more players to add more depth and strength to the squad so if your child's 10th birthday falls between 31st August 08 and the 31st August 09 then we would like to hear from you.

The training will take place on a Friday evening (light nights only) then on Saturday mornings when the clocks change in October with the games on a Sunday morning.
