We receive many complaints of inconsiderate parking in our villages. Often parking is limited and can become quite difficult. Sometimes others view is blocked by where you park your vehicle, near to junctions, driveways etc.
Please be aware next time you park your car and ask yourself "Could this cause an accident?"
Please do not leave any valuables in your car when you park it at any beauty spots. These areas have been a target for thieves recently, smashing windows to remove property.
Items on view such as CD's, Coats, Satellite navigation holders, Loose change, Mobiles and shopping are targets for thieves. It only takes a few seconds to break in a steal such items.
Wiltshire police have recently seen an increase in the theft of household heating oil from tanks. This type of theft is becoming more desirable due to the increasing global prices of oil, along with easy access to the storage containers which are usually housed in people's gardens.
Crime Reduction Officer, Claire Rooney from Wiltshire Police said "Many homes, especially those in rural locations throughout Wiltshire are served by this form of heating, and their oil is stored in large tanks in the garden, with the average oil tank costing £1000 to fill, I would urge anyone with an oil tank to take some basis crime prevention measures"
Crime Prevention Measures
Ensure the tank is as out of sight as possible, if you are unable to do this camouflage as best you canConceal exterior pipe workKeep front gates to your property shut and any side gates lockedCheck your tank regularly and report anything suspicious to your local police as soon as possibleA metal cage can be used to protect the tapInstall security lightingEnsure that you have adequate insurance coverAnyone with information is urged to contact Salisbury Police. If you require any further information on Crime Prevention, please contact the Community Affairs Department at Salisbury Police Station 0845 408 7000
Keep the door shut if you do not recognise or are not expecting a caller.
Most people who call at your home will be genuine. But sometimes people turn up unannounced, with the intention of tricking their way into your home. These people are known as 'distraction burglars' or 'bogus callers', their only aim is to trick you into letting them in to your home so they can steal money or valuables. They may be smartly dressed and claim to be from the council, police, and health organisations or from gas, water or electric companies.
They can be VERY convincing and persuasive and will use any excuse to distract you.
This does happen in our area so please be extra careful.
If you are worried about any of this please contact Tracey Holloway who will be happy to pay you a visit.
