CHRISTMAS BINGO This was held back in December and proved to be a real success with the hall filled with enthusiastic players, some regulars and some new faces and it is hoped that the Tuesday night sessions will continue to be well supported throughout this year. A worthwhile amount of £630 was raised, so thanks to everybody who participated and to those involved in organising the event, that included a generous raffle.
HOUSING PANEL MEETING Wiltshire Council house tenants from the area are invited to come along to the hall on Tuesday, 29th February for a cup of tea and to put forward any issues they would like to discuss.
BAD DRIVING There are a minority of drivers who drive off the main road and into St. Andrew's Road and beyond to Vale View road etc, at an unacceptable speed. There are a number of children who live on the estate who are able to enjoy playing on and around the pavements and all drivers should be aware and make allowances for them by slowing down their speed. It only takes a split second for an accident to happen that could potentially ruin many lives.
FILM NIGHT The film to be shown on Saturday, 24th February is Bridget Jones's Baby, a romantic comedy film starring Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey.
Doors open at 7.00 pm for 7.30 pm. £5 per person donation includes a glass of wine or beer and all profits go towards the Village Hall Extension Fund. Children under 16 go free when accompanied by an adult. Raffle.
VALLEY ART GROUP We had a good start in January with more new members joining the group. If you practice an art or craft you are welcome to drop in to any of our sessions held fortnightly on a Friday morning. There is only a mininal fee payable on the day to cover the cost of the hall. All levels of experience welcome. If you would like to join us please contact Loraine 743577 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
BREAKFAST MORNING The next breakfast morning will be on Saturday, February 25th from 9.00 am until 11.00 am. Come along and enjoy a full English breakfast, read the papers, and have a convivial chat. A warming start to the weekend.
THE GREAT BRITISH SPRING CLEAN is a national campaign led by the Keep Britain Tidy organisation, that will take place over the weekend of 3rd - 5th March. This follows on from a successful litter pick last year, and volunteers are sought to help out again for an hour or two to keep our area looking clean and tidy. Appropriate equipment will be provided and anybody interested, including children, please contact Caroline Webb on 743897.
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE South Newton, Wishford and Stapleford WI was first founded 90 years ago in South Newton
village and was originally called South Newton WI. In later years ladies from Wishford and Stapleford joined and South Newton WI incorporated these names into the title. In this anniversary year members come not only from these three villages but from the wider area including Wilton, Quidhampton and Salisbury . Currently though only three members now come from South Newton and it would be good to increase the membership from our village. You are welcome to come along to any of our meetings as a guest in the first instance and will be made to feel very welcome, without any obligation to join. If you are interested please contact Loraine 743577 or Pam 790022. We meet the first Thursday of the month at 2.00 pm at the village hall.
